BLOCKED

So I eventually got round to picking up my custom earplugs. You know the ones that traumatised me at the fitting? I felt a bit of post natal depression towards them, coz they'd caused me so much hurt already.

David told me he wore his for five minutes then felt sick for the rest of the day. I was LITTLE BIT SCARED to say the least. I am SO relieved that they are transparent. I had an awful vision of them being "flesh" coloured, then it would look like I had a hearing aid or something.

So after VERY CAREFULLY reading the instructions I "twisted" the earplug into place. It felt GROSS. Then I got well panicky because I hadnt actually read the part of how to take them out, I couldn't grip the damn thing so just yanked it out of my ear, and the suction hurt my ear. IDIOT. Turns out you have to TWIST them the other way. Which is much easier, and pain free.

I did one ear at a time, we are slowly bonding. I have two weeks till tour. Slowly, slowly catchy monkey.

  1. Good for you! My hearing survived a raft of No Wave shows --Swans, Sonic Youth, Jim Thurlwell-- a gaggle of industrial concerts --Skinny Puppy, Ministry, NiN-- and the shoegazers --MBV, Ride, Lush, Drop Nineteens not to mention all the noisy shows my own bands put on.

It survived all that but when a friend yelled into my ear at the front of a fscking Letters to Cleo show in NYC my left ear was gone, never to return from rrrrrriiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnngggggggland.

Lesson: It only takes a moment to fuck up your hearing for life.
